Rafedin Fashion
Established in 2016 by Habibi Association, Rafedin Fashion was created to enable vulnerable communities, including refugees, to improve their well-being and access income-generating opportunities. The workshop offers capacity-building opportunities and involves women in the design and production of fashionable clothing and accessories.
Its concept contributes to Habibi Association’s core mission of creating resilient communities that have the means at their disposal to impact their own future and see their essential rights recognized.
The project started by working with a small group of vulnerable women, including refugees, and developing their sewing skills. By practicing the acquired skills, the group started producing fashion creations under the Rafedin brand (“the land between two rivers”). The fusion of different cultural traditions and the use of traditional fabrics from the Mediterranean and the Middle East led to the creation of high-quality prêt-à-porter collections that were well received by the public.
Over the years, the fashion collection has expanded, using different techniques and creating new models. Innovative designs combine Italian fashion influences with Jordanian and regional fabrics, garments and embroidery, creating alternative fashion products including accessories such as bags, shoes, pochettes, scarves, as well as home décor and table linens.
The production process also involves women from different communities according to their skills and traditional know-how, from textile decoration and embroidery to sewing and other forms of craftsmanship, creating opportunities for them to generate income through their work.
